Medical Facilities in Vaishno Devi
Vaishno Devi is one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations all over India despite its unapproachable location. The difficult terrains and the 12 km trek can be difficult for elderly people, kids, or individuals with any underlying health conditions. To help pilgrims get a glimpse of the Goddess without any medical hazards, the shrine board offers medical facilities to everyone who embarks on the trek.
Who can undertake the Yatra?
It is believed that by stepping foot on the holy land of Mata Vaishno Devi, pilgrims can bid adieu to the woes of their mortal world. Thus, anyone who seeks redemption from their sins can travel to Vaishno Devi with a pure heart. No certain medical certificate is mandatory for the Yatra, but those who are suffering from respiratory problems, heart problems, or any other orthopedic ailments are advised to undertake the trek to Vaishno Devi after due medical advice and checkups. The checkups are recommended because asthmatic, orthopedic, and cardiac issues are known to be aggravated during the strenuous climb. If there are any such issues, the patient is stringently prohibited from using the stairs.
What sorts of medical facilities are available while climbing up the terrain?
Under the aegis of the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, there is an around-the-clock charitable dispensary and a block hospital at Katra. If any devotee feels uncomfortable during the yatra or any health problem arises, then there are emergency medical check posts at Sanjichhat, Adhkuwari, Banganga, and Bhawan. All basic medical facilities are provided here, and if needed patients can also take emergency drugs as well as oxygen cylinders with them. There is a 24-hour ICU and dispensary at Bhawan as well if anything serious comes up. However, for advanced or specialized medical treatment, patients have to go to Jammu.
